Efficient and timely collaboration between the scientific community and policy makers is crucial in mitigation and adaptation efforts related to climate change we are facing. Scientific findings in the field of climate science are an integral part of policy-making and it is of utmost importance to boost and maintain exchange of knowledge and needs between researchers and policy-makers on a regular basis.

The Climate Science2Policy (CS2P) workshop, organised by the European Commission last 17-18 November was to bring together Earth System Science H2020 projects and policy makers to identify and discuss key policy-relevant messages and research requirements to achieve the climate targets of the European Green Deal and other climate change related policies and programmes.

During this 2-days event, SO-CHIC's coordinator participated to a Session on "Climate and Ocean Processes" lead by APPLICATE and Blue-Action.

Along with other European projects namely Nunataryuk, APPLICATE and Blue-Action, Jean-Baptiste Sallée highlighted the importance of the Southern Ocean, as the thermostat of our planet.

As an outcome to this event, a document with policy-relevant recommendations for consulting purposes in future policy making (including the funding programmes) will be written.
